Law and order improved in Arunachal: DGP

Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police S Nithiyanandam today said the law and order situation in the state, particularly in the capital town, has improved.
62 per cent cases have been solved in 2014-15 and it is an appreciable achievement, Nithiyanandam said, adding all out efforts were being made for a much better result this year.
The DGP said the situation improved further following imposition of President's Rule on January 26 with the deployment of 70 companies of central para-military and state forces.
The number of crime cases might be 150 more in 2014-15 compared to that in the previous year, but was less when compared to the population growth and rising migration, the GDP told a press conference.

Stressing the need for public cooperation, he said crime would go down if people become more vigilante.
On the 'bandh culture' of the state, the DGP said it was not a law and order problem but an "old habit" which will "die hard".

"Police alone can't change the old habit at one go. It would take time through mass awareness, education and realisation about the futility of such practices," Nithiyanandam said.
The DGP said checking against non-use of helmet, triple riding and motorcycles without number plate has been intensified.
50 police personnel are being trained for traffic duty to add to the existing 37 personnel and, if required, more hands would be given for easy traffic flow, he said.

Asked about the vehicles parked on main and side roads creating traffic congestion, he said it would be looked into.
