The incident took place in the house of lawyer S K Dutta (68) in Preet Vihar at around 2:30 AM and the deceased has been identified as Animesh.
The robbers entered the house by cutting the window grills and barged into the room where Dutta and his wife Prabha (65) were sleeping.
When the couple resisted the robbery attempt, they were gagged and bundled into a room with their hands and legs tied.
Hearing the commotion, their son Animesh woke up. When he encountered the robbers, they overpowered him and smothered with a pillow.
Later, Animesh's mother managed to set herself free and alerted the neighbours. She also called her daughter who is staying nearby.
Animesh owned a textile shop in Preet Vihar.
