Claiming lesser allocation of food grains to Kerala following the implementation of National Food Security Act, MPs from Left parties today staged protest on Parliament premises, demanding its sufficient supply to keep running public distribution system efficiently in the state.
The Centre would earlier provide Kerala with 16.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grain, CPI(M) MP P Karunakaran told reporters.
However, with the implementation of the Act, the state has lost 2 lakh metric tonnes of food grains, he claimed.
"Hence, the state government is unable to distribute food grains through PDS, which is the best in the country. Our Chief Minister (Pinarayi Vijayan) had raised the issue with the Prime Minister and other Ministers in the central government. But there was no response and therefore, the protest," he added.
CPI national secretary D Raja was among those who took part in the demonstrations held near Gandhi statue.
