Left parties court arrest

CPI and CPI (M) workers were taken into custody when they attempted to picket government offices and Assembly in Puducherry in support of their demands here today.
They were demanding, among other things, protection of workers in unorganised sector, collection of arrears of power tariff from big industrial units in the Union Territory and arrest of all those involved in alleged sexual abuse of girls.
Those taken into custody included member of National Council of CPI Nara Kalainathan, Town Secretary of the CPI K.Murugan, member of the executive council of State CPI (M) T.Murugan.
Similar agitation was held in Karaikal also, Murugan said.

Police said all those taken into custody were later released.
