"Nehru-125," a souvenir was released by former Union Minister Narayanasamy in which senior CPI leader R Nallakannu, and CPI(M) MLA A Soundararajan participated.
Asked if their participation had any political significance, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President E V K S Elangovan said, "I don't see any such thing... It is an event to honour Nehru," he told PTI.
CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan echoed similar views and added, "there is no need to read too much into it, our participation shows our committment to protect secularism."
The Left parties have participated in a function organised by the Congress after a gap of many years.
The Communists were seen together with Congress on public platforms as part of the DMK-led alliance in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections and thereafter till their ties snapped before the 2009 general elections.
