Left parties today welcomed the formation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi but were cautious about its stability with Congress backing.
CPI hoped Arvind Kejriwal's government would succeed in fulfilling all aspirations of the people "if you are allowed to rule and govern for full term and CPI assures its full cooperation in all the endeavours," the party's Delhi unit secretary Dhirendra Sharma said in a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
He said CPI wanted that the residents of the national capital to get "not only reduction in electricity rates, water to all, ration to all, but also improved education in government schools, appointment regular teachers and abolition of contractual appointments in government departments".
In a statement, CPI(ML) said AAP had triggered the "collapse" of Congress and placed itself in contention with BJP. AAP is running a government backed by Congress. "In the days to come, how AAP handles this new phase of contention will be important to observe," CPI(ML) state secetary Sanjay Sharma said.
He welcomed the emergence of AAP as "a powerful third force in Delhi" and having brought to the fore a "democratic agenda concerning some basic demands and interests of the common people".
"We hope that in the face of these assaults on the rights of Delhi's poor and common people, the AAP government will live up to its manifesto and defend people's aspirations for a thorough reversal of corrupt and anti-people governance," the party said.
