Leh records season's lowest temperature

Leh recorded the season's lowest night temperature at minus 7.4 degrees Celsius, a Met Department official said.
The mercury dropped five notches in Ladakh region's Leh town from the previous night's minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, he said.
The minimum temperature in neighbouring town of Kargil settled at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, a slight drop from the previous temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The state's summer capital, Srinagar, also registered a drop in night temperatures with the minimum of 1.7 degrees Celsius, compared to yesterday's 2.8 degrees celsius, he said.
He said the minimum temperature in the south Kashmir tourist resort of Pahalgam went below freezing point to settle at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Although the night temperature in the ski-resort of Gulmarg was also below freezing point at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, it registered a rise of two notches from the previous minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said other places in the valley like Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara recorded drop of one to two notches in the night temperatures but the minimum temperature settled above the freezing point.
The weather department has forecast a fresh western disturbance that is likely to affect the state from November 5, adding the weather would remain dry and pleasant till then.
