Leopard trapped from NEIST campus

A full-grown male leopard was trapped from the premises of the North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in upper Assam's Jorhat by the Forest department today.
The leopard was trapped by the Jorhat Forest Division officials after it had triggered panic within the campus for the last few days, department sources said.
On Saturday evening at around 8.40 pm, the wild animal chased two junior women scientists as they came out from the laboratory towards their hostel, the sources said.
Following the incident, NEIST authority informed the police and forest department which put up a cage with a goat as a bait and today the wild cat was trapped into it.

The feline has been sent to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) at Panbari in Kaziranga National Park for treatment before being set free in the park, they said.
The leopard was freely moving about in the huge experimental herbal garden inside the campus during the last two days, the NEIST authorities said.
