The move comes in the wake of the questioning of several Kashmiri students by Delhi Police after a row over an event in JNU campus against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
The Lt Governor has appointed Delhi Police's Special Commissioner (Crime) Taj Hasan as the Special Nodal Officer for addressing Kashmiri students' issues.
"Lt. Governor's office has been approached by some people that students from Kashmir are apprehensive of their safety and security in the city.
It further said that Hasan can be contacted via phone on 1093/100 or via email on splcp-crime-dl@nic.In. These numbers are manned round the clock.
This arrangement is on similar lines as the one made for students from the North-East.
After the February 9 incident where some anti-India slogans were allegedly raised at JNU, police is believed to have collected the names of Kashmiri students which sound similar to the names of the organisers of the Afzal Guru event.
"They asked me whether I was present there on February 9? Why did I attend the programme and much more. They even asked for my passport and other ID proof," a female JNU Kashmiri student, who resides in south Delhi, had alleged.
