Licenses for luxury taxis to enhance employment oppurtunity

West Bengal Transport Department would soon start issuing licenses for luxury taxis outside the Gatidhara scheme to enhance employment opportunity for the youths.

"This will increase the employment opportunity for the youths here. Also more cars will be added to the existing fleet of luxury cars in the state," a senior official of the transport department said.

The applicants need to apply online through the department's updated website.

The department had recently conducted a review in and around the city on the changing character of common people who prefer app-based cars over hiring road taxis, the official stated.

"This is a recent trend and we are trying to cash in on that. People want to travel in neat and clean vehicles and do not want to be troubled by inconsistent fares charged by yellow taxi drivers. Fare surging in app-based taxis are not much and that is the primary reason of its rising popularity." he added.
