According to the prosecution, Ramesh, a labourer, assured a girl, a student staying near to his house in June, 2014, that he would marry her, to which she agreed.
Later he took her to Udagamandalam and raped her.
She told her parents, who were searching her, about the incident. When the parents asked Ramesh to marry her, he refused.
On this, the girl's parents made a complaint with All Women Police who registered cases for kidnap and rape against him.
Erode District Mahila Court Judge Thirunavukarasu awarded life sentence for kidnapping the girl and another life sentence for rape.
