The court sent 48-year-old Meerut resident Seeshpal to jail for the offence.
"From perusal of record, it is revealed that it has been proved that Seeshpal had kidnapped the minor girl and murdered her following the rape. Since convict was the uncle of victim i.E. Brother of her father, it was expected from him that he would have taken care of the victim but he acted adversely from his responsibility," Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar said.
The court awarded life term to Seeshpal for both rape and murder, seven-year imprisonment for kidnapping and three-year jail for destroying the evidence. It, however, said all the sentences will run concurrently.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 17,000 on Seeshpal. It also said as the case against him has been proved, parents of the minor are entitled for compensation and asked them to approach Delhi Legal Service Authority for appropriate compensation.
According to the prosecution, the child had gone missing on November 25, 2012, when she was playing outside the house of a relative, where she had gone with her mother.
The victim's mother had returned home and their relative had told her that he would leave the child later on but when the girl did not return, the woman came to know that she was missing and started searching her.
