The incident took place yesterday at Pimpalkothe village when farmer--Balasaheb Abhiman Bhamare--was storing onions collected from his field, police said today.
Suddenly lightning struck the region killing Bhamare, while 500 quintals of onions in his field were gutted owing to a short circuit.
The farmer died in a hospital at Taharabad after receiving serious burn injuries.
Unseasonal rains also lashed Dasvel, Katarvel, Daregaon and Rajapur areas in the district last afternoon causing heavy damage to crops.
