A local Shiv Sena leader has been booked under the Atrocities Act for allegedly abusing Republican Party of India (A) activists, police said today.
Chinappa, a Shiv Sena 'shakha prahmukh' (local unit head) of Mira Road in the district, hurled abuses and used slang words against RPI(A) workers led by one Prafulla Waghela in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a police official of Mira Road police station said.
The incident took place when the activists were putting up banners for a function to be attended by RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale, he said, adding the accused reportedly said that it was his area.
As per the complaint filed yesterday, Chinappa also allegedly thrashed Waghela, he said.
A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Atrocities Act was registered against the Sena leader yesterday, the official said, adding investigation is underway.
