Demanding arrest of the persons who killed a youth at Mahindra Park area in North West Delhi, locals in Jehangirpuri area today blocked the road near Adarsh Nagar Metro station and pelted stones on vehicles.
The youth Sanjay Pehlwan who worked at wholesale vegetable market near Jehangiuri, was shot dead in the wee hours of yesterday.
Demanding arrest of those who killed 33-year-old Sanjay, locals including his relatives staged a protest near Adarsh Nagar Metro station and blocked the road in the morning. The traffic was diverted to avoid the disturbance leading to road jam, said a police officer.
They pelted stones at the Metro station and vehicles on the road. Police tried to control the mob but they started clashing with cops which resulted in injuries to several persons including policemen, he said.
"The gates of Adarsh Nagar Metro station were closed down from 9.50 am to 11.12 am although train movement was unaffected," said a DMRC official.
"The mob also pelted stones on police in which 5 policemen received minor injury. A case of rioting has been registered by the police in connection with the protest by the mob," he said.
The victim Sanjay lived in Mahindra Park with his wife and son. The police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and they are questioning Pehlwan's relatives, neighbours, friends and business associates.
"We have narrowed down to the suspects in Sanjay's murder and raids are on to arrest them," said Vijay Singh, DCP of North West Delhi police.
