Lokayukta police today raided the residence of an Assistant Godown officer of Madhya Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Department and unearthed properties worth around Rs 5 crore, highly disproportionate to his known source of income.
"We raided Dinesh Chourasia's residence at Surya Colony on Kolar Road and unearthed huge movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known source of income," Bhopal Lokayukta SP Birendra Singh told PTI.
"Initial estimates revealed that he amassed wealth more than Rs 5 crore," the SP said.
Lokayukta police calculated his income from his salary and pegged it at Rs 25 lakh, he said, adding that he joined services in 1988.
According to documents recovered from his residence, Chourasia owns land and properties in different parts of the district including localities like Vineet Kunj, Saravdharm, Huzur tehsil and other places, the SP said.
Lokayukta police also found Rs 1.60 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh as well as papers related to Rs 2.5 lakh invested in LIC policies from his residence. He had ten bank accounts of which four have deposits of Rs 1.60 lakh, Singh said.
Presently, Chourasia is on deputation with the MP State Warehousing and Logistic Corporation in the adjoining district of Raisen.
He said Chourasia lived a luxurious life and owned an SUV, a car and two scooters.
Singh said though Chourasia accumulated huge property, his father and brother lived in slums.
Chourasia has been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the SP said, adding that further investigations were on.
