The National Minimum Pension (Guarantee) Bill, 2014, introduced by BJP member Nishikant Dubey, also envisages setting up of a National Pension Board.
The board would have the responsibility of maintaining record of persons who have retired from employment in unorganised or private sector as well as of those who are 60 years old and not getting the minimum pension under the proposed Act.
Initiating a discussion on the bill, Dubey said universal pension scheme is the solution to ensure that aged people, who are poor, also get a square meal.
Such a scheme would ensure social security for those in the unorganised and private sectors, Dubey said.
Among others, the bill seeks to set up a National Pension Fund with a corpus of Rs 50,000 crore.
Supporting the Bill, Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD) said with the improvement in medical amenities, life expectancy is also on the rise. So there is a need to set up the Board which would take care of those unorganised sector, farmers and downtrodden people.
Three private member bills were introduced by BJP member Om Prakash Yadav. They are 'The Basic and Primary Education (Compulsory Teaching in Mother Tongue) Bill, 2014', 'The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2014' and 'The Sanskrit Language (Promotion) Bill, 2014'.
