Lt Governor's plea to Puducherry government

Lt Governor Lt General (retd) A K Singh today urged the Puducherry government to go in for setting up an art and craft village as had been proposed by the Union Textiles Ministry (Office of Development Commissioner) in Puducherry.
Inaugurating a ten-day long 'Gandhi Shilp Bazaar' here, Singh said Puducherry had good tourist potential and establishing an art and craft village would be of help for the local craftsmen to promote their skills.
Welfare and Tourism Minister P.Rajavelu, who presided, said the exhibition would be held till October 19. Last year's sales at the fair touched Rs 100 crore,he said.
Navraj Goyal, Additional Commissioner (Handicrafts), New Delhi, also spoke.
The fair is organised jointly by the Office of Development Commissioner, New Delhi, and the Corporation for Development of Backward Classes and Minorities, Puducherry.
