The network will produce the drama off-cycle after struggling to cast the lead John Luther, reported Deadline.
Idris Elba led the BBC's original series but will only serve as an executive producer on the US remake, alongside creator Neil Cross.
'Luther' is the first project to be pushed out of pilot season this year, although the occurrence isn't unusual as networks fight to secure the right talent.
'The McCarthys' was delayed from 2013 to 2014 by CBS for similar reasons, while 'The Mistake' remains without any cast after moving from 2014 to 2015.
