"We have agreed to give more time to the committee to complete its exercise within one month," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after a meeting with the 13 NGOs demanding for comprehensive mechanism to address issue of influx here today.
The committee headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Rowel Lyngdoh, has been tasked with the responsibility to examine the need to amend if any in respect of felt need to strengthen the existing Provisions of Benami Transaction Act and Tenancy Verification Bill.
Sangma said, "The chairman (Lyngdoh) has expressed the need to further engage with the district council and also with traditional institutions."
According to him, it is appropriate that traditional institutions should also be involved in the process before we ultimately finalize those drafts so that everybody has that sense of ownership of whatever Bill that is being drafted in the best interest of the people.
