Machine set up in Jammu to test gold purity

The Jammu and Kashmir government has installed a machine here to help gold buyers test purity of ornaments of the precious metal.
The Department of Legal Metrology has equipped its office with gold purity testing machine 'Karatmeter' to facilitate the buyer get tested purity of gold ornaments in Jammu, Joint Controller, LMD, V S Sambyal said while conducting the test run on the machine.
"Karatmeter, an accurate, non-destructive means of testing purity of gold, would give an exact reading of the purity of precious gold ornaments thus saving the customers from any exploitation in this regard," the Joint Controller said.

Sambyal said that a customer can get the quality of his gold ornaments tested through this machine during any working hours.
The department has appealed the people dealing with gold trade to mark correct purity on ornaments along with their mark.
