The Bihar Home department today ordered the transfer of Magadh Range DIG P K Shrivastava hours after he told the media that the kidnapped doctor couple had been dropped at Lucknow railway station by their captors, which contradicted the statement of state police chief P K Thakur.
Thakur, however, maintained that the DIG was transferred for not wearing uniform during interactions with media and visit to the rescued couple's house.
The DGP had earlier in the day said in Patna that the couple were freed due to intense police pressure and the cops had escorted them to Lucknow railway station from where they returned to Gaya.
The state Home department notification ordered transfer of the 1998 batch IPS officer P K Shrivastava to state headquarters.
Shrivastava has been replaced by the 2001 batch IPS Shaleen as Magadh range DIG, the notification said.
Asked about the reason behind abrupt transfer of the DIG, the DGP denied it had anything to do with the contradictory statement issued by him to the media regarding the kidnapped doctor couple.
It was due to the DIG not wearing uniform while visiting the home of the doctor couple in Gaya after they reached from Lucknow and even talking to the press in plain clothes later on, the DGP said.
Meanwhile, a Gaya report said that doctor Pankaj Gupta, who was freed by his captors with his wife Suhbra Gupta, told mediapersons that the kidnappers used to administer "intoxicants" to him and his wife in captivity.
He further said that the kidnappers while releasing him said that "many well wishers are waiting for you to meet.
