Sandeep Tyagi of Morta village has been arrested who along with his aide Punnu Ali made celebratory gunfire in an inebriated condition during a marriage ceremony on Sunday that injured excise inspector Varun Kumar, SHO Sihani Gate Ashok Shishodia said.
Ali, the other accused in the incident is still absconding, he said.
A licensed pistol, two country made pistols of .315 calibre and 35 cartridges have been found from Tyagi's house, police said.
The excise inspector had alleged that liquor smugglers had shot at him while he was checking vehicles for illicit liquor with his team near Morta village on Delhi-Meerut road leaving him with a pellet injury in his right leg.
Appropriate action will be initiated against the errant inspector after the recommendation of the magistrate, police said.
