Senior Maharashtra Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil today said he was diagnosed with Dengue.
"During the Monsoon Session of the State Legislature in Nagpur I was diagnosed with dengue. Doctors have advised that I stay away from public functions from some days. Hence, I will not be able to attend my scheduled programmes for the next few days," Vikhe Patil tweeted.
According to sources close to the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, heavy rains in Nagpur in the first week of the monsoon session this month had caused flooding of Vikhe-Patil's official residence at Ravi Bhavan.
"The accumulated water caused breeding of mosquitoes. Vikhe Patil contracted dengue because of this," sources said.
They said the diagnosis was made after blood samples of the Congress leader tested positive for the vector infection.
"On the last day of the monsoon session (on July 20), Vikhe Patil had fever. But he still left for Delhi to attend the extended CWC meeting. He had high fever throughout that day. After he returned to his hometown Loni (Ahmednagar), his blood samples were taken and the diagnosis was made. His platelet count is also very low. He has been advised complete rest," sources said.
