Maha: statutory boards for regional development get extension

The Maharashtra government today decided to give a five years' extension-- up to April 30, 2020 -- to the Vidarbha Statutory Development Board.
The board's term was to expire on April 30, 2015.
The state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took the decision today.
The board, set up under a Constitutional provision on April 30, 1994 to remove the regional imbalance, has got six extensions so far.
The cabinet also extended the terms of statutory development boards for Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra, an official release said here.
In another decision, the cabinet decided to set up a forest academy in Chandrapur.
Presently high-ranking forest officers go to Dehradoon for training and refresher courses.
The cabinet today also decided to establish a Bamboo Research and Training Centre at Chichpalli in the Chandrapur district with a budget of Rs 11.12 crore.
