Office bearers of the minority cell of Maharashtra Congress today threatened to resign en masse, if its chief M M Shaikh is not renominated to the legislative council through the Governor's quota.
In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, signed by as many as 47 district chiefs as well as office bearers from Konkan and Pune, it was mentioned that Shaikh's tenure had ended in March.
The letter mentioned that he had worked hard to strengthen the party and that failure to renominate him is seen as an injustice to the minority community.
The district chiefs wrote that if Shaikh is not renominated, all minority cell office bearers in districts and talukas would resign and the chief minister would be responsible for the consequences.
Two of the six names from the Congress list is yet to be announced and Shaikh's name should figure among them, the letter said.
