Mahout fined for using elephant to seek alms from public

Forest officials slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 under Prevention of Cruelty to animals Act on a mahout for using his elephant to seek alms from public here.
District forest officials booked the mahout Mohanapandian under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for using the elephant to seek alms from the public, K N Kumaresan, Wildlife Ranger said today.
Later a fine of Rs 10,000 was collected from him and let off with a warning against continuing such practice, the official said.
