Uttar Pradesh minister Mohd Azam Khan today alleged that two of the biggest parties in the country were trying to disturb the social atmosphere by polarising the people.
In what is being seen as a veiled attack on Congress and BJP, Khan, without taking names, said these parties wanted to take the country back to the 1992 era when the Ayodhya crisis had rocked the nation.
"Two major parties of the country are trying to disturb the social atmosphere through polarisation and want to take it back to the 1992 era," Azam told reporters here.
Referring to another issue, Khan rued the inadequate selection of candidates from the minority community in state-level civil services in the last two decades.
Although dozens of minority candidates secured the requisite numbers in written examinations over this period, the majority of them were rejected at the interview stage, Khan said in a statement here.
The minister said that reservation apart, the non-selection of minority candidates despite their good performance in the written examination was a matter of serious concern which needed to be addressed.
The minister also strongly condemned yesterday's attack on UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's cavalcade in Andhra Pradesh's Hyderabad saying that such incidents would adversely impact mutual relations between the two states.
