Major railway projects will become operational soon:DRM

Electrification work on the Virudhunagar-Vanchimaniyachchi-Tutcorin-Tirunelveli section was in full swing, and overhead equipment installation work had been completed, an official of Madurai Divisional Railway said today.
Participating in the 68th Independence day celebrations here today, Ajai Kant Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager(DRM) said on completion of sub-station work at Kovilpatti, the entire Virudunagar-Tuticorin-Tirunelveli section will be commissioned.
Regarding gauge conversion of Sengottai-Punalur section, the DRM said major works are in progress in this section and on completion of yard work at Pollachi, this section will become operational after getting clearance from Commissioner of Rail Safety, Bangalore.
Owing to intense marketing efforts by Railways with support from major customers and transportation of imported fertilizer and coal consignments the division touch a record revenue through freight, he said.

Madurai Railway division has won the Overall efficiency shield of the Soutern railway as well as the Commercial Publicity Shield for 2013-14, Ajai Kant Rastogi said.
