The incident happened around 6.15 PM as the train came to an abrupt halt while approaching the station from the Lakhsmi Nagar side.
During the evening rush hours, passengers of the jam-packed train came out on the elevated tracks between Lakshmi Nagar and Yamuna Bank and walked their way to the stations.
Since the Yamuna Bank-Vaishali corridor was closed, the standard operating procedure of evacuation was further delayed, metro authorities said, adding that the procedure could not be followed as the commuters themselves forced open the emergency exit.
"During Over Head Electrification (OHE) repair one of the trains approaching Yamuna Bank from Laxmi Nagar got held up mid-section and passengers opened the emergency doors," Delhi Metro said in a statement.
It also said the wire may have snapped due to the electrocution of a crow at that location although a thorough investigation is underway.
The cascading effects of the incident could be felt till late in the evening as trains across the nearly 50-km corridor slowed down and halted at places resulting in packed platforms.
Yesterday morning too, all trains on this corridor had slowed down as they were not achieving their target speed which averages around 36 km/hour.
Blue Line that carries nearly 10 lakh commuters daily.
