Hundreds of community people under the banner of JBSS assembled at Bengal Club, Sakchi here and took out a procession in support of their demand on Saturday.
Later, JBSS president Bikash Mukherjee led a delegation of the Samity and handed over a memorandum addressed to the Jharkhand Chief Minister in support of their demands to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum district, Amitabh Kaushal.
Following a lot of struggle, Mukherjee regretted that the vast Bengali speaking population of the state were confident that the language could get recognition.
Unfortunately, thereafter the things had started deteriorating, Bengali medium schools had been converted into Hindi or English medium one after another, Consequently, lakhs of children were deprived of getting education in their mother tongue, which was against the spirit of our constitution, Mukherjee said.
JBSS functionary demanded the state government to accord due importance to Bengali language in various government activities to promote the language and restore the schools which had been converted from Bengali to Hindi or English medium in the past.
JBSS further demanded for constitution of a Bengali Academy, which was already agreed by the previous government.
