Makhdoom Sahib ropeway system opened for public

The first ropeway system in the city, connecting the famous shrine of sufi saint Makhdoom Sahib (RA) atop a hillock in the old city, was today opened for public.
This is the second such project in the state after the famous Gandola Cable Car in Gulmarg ski-resort.
This ropeway, constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, will provide an alternative means of transportation to the old and disabled people who visit the revered shrine.
JK Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar inaugurated the project in the presence of Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

"To augment the power system in the city, a comprehensive project has been formulated at an estimated cost of Rs 669 crore, which would ensure that the electric supply is streamlined and the people get the requisite supply of the much needed electricity without any delay," Sagar said.
Mir said the ropeway would go a long way in promoting the tourism related activities in the area, besides providing an alternative means of transportation to the old and disabled people who come to pay obeisance at the revered shrine.
