Mamata asks Centre to declassify all Netaji files

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today asked the Central government to declassify all files related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
"We have already declassified all files that were with us. Now, the Central government should do the same," she told reporters after a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Sixty-four secret files relating to Netaji which could help throw light on his mysterious disappearance -- an enduring enigma for seven decades -- were released by the West Bengal government on September 18.
Banerjee said copies of the CD containing the 64 files related to Netaji have already been given to President, Vice- President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and the Speaker of Lok Sabha.

Altogether 89 files related to Bose are with the Central government. The Ministry of External Affairs is holding on to 29 files and the Prime Minister's Office has 60 files related to Netaji.
Some files were already declassified by the Central government and sent to the National Archive.

Banerjee said whenever she visits Delhi, she meets the Union Home Minister and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
"Last time I could not do it because there was heavy floods in Bengal," she said.
The Chief Minister said she has urged the Union Home Minister to provide financial assistance to West Bengal for flood relief works.

"Disaster management fund is with the Union Home Ministry. A Central team has gone to our state after the flood and they have submitted the report also. We have already spent some money from the state's fund. Now we want Centre's assistance," she said.
