Mamata remembers eminent writer on his death anniversary

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today remembered Bengali writer, painter, violin player and composer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury on his 102nd death anniversary.
"Solemnly remembering the creator of immortal stories for children, Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury on his death anniversary," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle this morning.
Born in 1863 in Kishoreganj, now in Bangladesh, Upendrakishore had made significant contributions in children's literature.
His prominent works include "Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne", children verses in "?un?unir Boi" and translation of epics - "Chheleder Ramayon" and "Chheleder Mohabharat".
Most of the illustrations in his books were done by Ray Chowdhury himself.
Ray Chowdhury, the father of the eminent writer Sukumar Ray and the grandfather of renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray, was also a leading member of the Brahmo Movement in Bengal.
