West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today remembered Upendranath Brahmachari, who had discovered the medicine for kala-azar, on his birth anniversary.
"Remembering Upendranath Brahmachari, the discoverer of the medicine for kala-azar, on his birth anniversary," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle today.
Born on this day in 1873, Brahmachari's discovery saved nearly millions of lives in India, when kala-azar had caused havoc during the early 20th century.
