The accused was identified as V Srinu.
Police said that Srinu, an alcoholic, often harassed his parents for not finding a bride for him. He was also peeved because his younger brother Chantibabu had got engaged to a girl from the same village recently.
Last night he had an argument with his mother Chittamma. Later, when everybody was asleep, he set his mother and Chantibabu on fire after pouring kerosene on them. He also hit his father with a stick when the latter tried to stop him, police said.
After learning about the incident today morning, police sent a vehicle to take the victims to Paderu Area Hospital, said sub-inspector K Srinivas.
Police registered a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC and have launched a manhunt for Srinu.
Chittamma and Chantibabu were subsequently shifted to the KG Hospital here. Their condition was said to be critical.
