The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested a person from Sabarmati Railway Station here and seized three kilograms of 'charas' valued at around Rs 15 lakh from his possession.
According to an NCB official, the arrested person, Syed Alimuddin (60), received the consignment from Delhi and was about to receive 15 kg of the contraband but demonetisation affected its procurement.
"Acting on specific information, officers of NCB intercepted Alimuddin, a resident of Ahmedabad from Sabarmati railway station last evening and recovered three kilograms charas," said NCB zonal director Hariom Gandhi.
"Upon interrogation he said the contraband was supplied to him by a person named Bashir, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir," Gandhi said, adding the high-quality charas from Kashmir is valued on the streets of Ahmedabad and surrounding areas where it was to be supplied, at around Rs 15 lakh and could go up to Rs 20 lakh.
Gandhi said that the supplier was supposed to bring around 15 kg charas but could not do so due to demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
"Due to demonetisation he was not having sufficient money to purchase more quantity of charas," he said.
Alimuddin has been arrested under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, police said.
