Man booked for cheating farmers' cooperative society

A man here was charged with offences for allegedly cheating a farmers' co-operative society by submitting a declaration that showed a number of dead farmers as 'alive' and thereby, availed benefits.
According to the complaint filed by Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Kalyan, yesterday, Jeet Pratap Singh had in 2010 submitted a declaration with cooperative society - Mharal Sahakari Samudhayak Sethi Sanstha, in which he had shown three farmers as 'alive' in order to get benefits for them.
But, later the society found out that the farmers had already passed away and that they were cheated by Singh, who availed benefits on the name of dead farmers, inspector at MFC police station, D M Katke said today.
The society then filed a complaint with Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Kalyan, which later lodged a police complaint yesterday.
A hunt has been launched to nab Singh and further investigation was on, he said.
