S Kurumanna, who did some small business, gave poison- laced cold drinks to his three daughters in Gadwal town at around midnight yesterday. Later, he also consumed the poison along with liquor, they said.
All the four family members collapsed soon after consuming the drinks. However, Kurumanna's eldest daughter Kurumakka (9) managed to go to a relative's house in the neighbourhood to inform them about the incident. Subsequently, all of them were shifted to a nearby hospital, Gadwal Circle Inspector G Suresh said.
As per preliminary investigation, Kurumanna was frustrated due to problems with his wife Rajamma, who did not look after their daughters, the inspector said.
His wife had left them two days back and he was also finding it difficult to meet the family expenses, he added.
A case has been registered and further probe is on into the incident.
