A police official said Basudev Mondal, a resident of Mondolpara locality under Jagaddal police station in North 24 Parganas district, was allegedly assaulted by his former driver and two of his associates last night following which he fell sick.
Mondal was admitted to Bhatpara State Genral Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, the official said.
Mondol had recently sacked the driver.
On hearing the news, Mondol's associates set ablaze a shanty in which one of the associates of the driver stayed.
