Man dies in custody; family alleges assault by officials

A man detained in connection with some land dispute in Gambhirpur area here allegedly died in custody, police said today.
There was some dispute between two parties over land on lease in Tirwa village. Yesterday, both the parties had a fresh dispute over the land during which some persons torched a hut, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Chandra Dubey said.
Police detained Dalsingar, Ramdular and Fauzdaar in this connection, the SP said.
All three were produced before the court yesterday and remanded in judicial custody, he said.
Dalsinger was feeling unwell due to which police took him to hospital where he died, the SP said.

Dalsingar's family has alleged that he died after being assaulted by revenue department personnel and have demanded post-mortem of the body, he said.
