The incident occurred when the victim, Krishnan of Kannakurichi in Salem district had come to Bhavani Kooduthurai this morning along with his relatives to immerse the ashes of his deceased brother.
When he was standing in hip deep water, he slipped and fell into the river and was washed away.
The body was fished out after a few hours from the Cauvery.
A case has been registered and investigation is on.
