The incident happened around 3 AM when 35-year-old Shaheed, a resident of Seeswali area in Baran district, along with other members of a gang was trying to steal oil and copper from the electric transformer (DP) in Balita village.
Suddenly electric current ran through the transformer, electrocuting him to death while one of his accomplice, Rafique, also a resident of Seeswali area, sustained burn injuries, Station House Officer of Keshoraipatan police station, Jitendra Acholiya said.
Based on a complaint of an electricity department official, a case was registered and a probe started.
Other members of the gang managed to escape when villagers reached the spot, the SHO said, adding that identity of the other gang members would be ascertained after interrogation of the injured.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after postmortem.
