A 55-year-old physically- challenged man allegedly committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district reportedly over the demand for according special category status to the state, police said today.
Ramisetty Laxmaiah hanged himself from the ceiling of his house at Keshavulu Nagar of Nellore city last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police S Maqbool said.
A note in Telugu which was found from the scene and purportedly written by Ramisetty read "Jai Andhra...The state should get special status and it should develop...Unemployment should be eradicated," the police officer told PTI over phone.
"It seems to be a clear suicide case...However, with regard to the note we are verifying the handwriting in the letter whether it is his own or not," the DSP said.
Ramisetty, who also suffered from a some unknown disease, was removed from his job in 2007 from the Housing Board where he worked on outsourcing basis. Besides, the house where he stayed was under civil dispute and a case was going on in a court and he had become economically weak, he said.
A case was booked under section 174 CrPC.
On August 8, a 40-year-old Congress worker, B Muni Kamakoti, set himself ablaze at a public meeting of the party in Tirupati to press the demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh and succumbed to his injuries the next day.
