Man gets 12 yrs' RI for raping minor niece

A local court today sentenced a 30-year-old man to 12 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping his niece, a minor, in Bhiwandi town here.
District Judge Mridula Bhatia also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kalandar alias Dadu Kadar Badsha Shaikh and in case of default, ordered another one year jail term for him.
Additional Public Prosecutor Ruma Navle informed the court that the accused was victim's maternal uncle and used to frequently visit the girl's family.
On December 2, 2013, the accused visited her house and enquired about her parents, who were not present, Navle told the court.
Under the pretext of taking the girl to her father, the accused took the victim to the IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi and raped her on the terrace of the second floor, the court was informed.

Investigating officer Police Inspector V K Deshmukh of Shantinagar police station told the court that the hospital staff who had come to the second floor spotted Shaikh following which they brought him to the police station and filed the complaint.
