According to prosecution, the accused, Sujit alias Subhash Sharad Miridha, had attacked his wife Swati with a sickle on the night of May 10, 2012, and also attacked her friend Tumpa Subodh Mandal.
Subhash, originally from Nadiya district of West Bengal and living in Dombivili area of Thane, used to earlier work as waiter at a hotel, where he met Swati, who was a dancer there.
Swati, whose husband from previous marriage had expired, and Subhash later got married in a temple and started living together.
Swati and Tumpa worked in different bars and stayed together.
About a fortnight prior to the attack, Swati and her husband had a quarrel following which Subhash went to his native place and returned 4-5 days before the incident.
On May 9, 2012, Tumpa and Swati went to bed after having dinner at around 11 PM.
On May 10, the accused entered the house at around 1 AM by cutting the window with a sickle.
The accused was living off the earnings of Swati and when she refused to maintain him any further and threw him out of the house, he entered through window and tried to kill her in retaliation.
The complainant (Tumpa) rushed for rescue of Swati and tried to intervene.
However, Subhash pushed her due to which she sustained injury on her left wrist. Thereafter, Subhash ran away through the window, the court was informed.
