The CCTV camera, installed under the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme of Delhi Police, captured the image of the accused who was later identified as Rajesh Mukhia, resident of Majnu Ka Tial.
He was found trying to tamper with the camera to avoid getting caught stealing the vehicle parked at Ram Kishor Road locality in Civil Lines Area, said Madhur Verma, DCP of North district police.
A close scrutiny of the CCTV footage revealed that Rajesh was loitering around the area and had shifted the camera before stealing the vehicle on the intervening night of April 27-28, the officer said.
Interrogation of the accused revealed that the stolen vehicle, a Honda City car owned by Raj Kumar Sethi, was parked by him at Sector 37 market in Faridabad from where it was finally recovered by a team of police, Verma added.
