Man held for molesting minor niece in Meghalaya

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district for allegedly sexually assaulting his minor niece, police said.

The incident occurred on September 17 in Daram Takiki village in the district and an FIR was filed at the Resubelpara police station the next day, they said.

According to the complaint by the man's wife, he gave some food to the girl, aged 9, and took her to the kitchen, bolted the door from inside and molested the minor, a police officer said.

The accused later ran from the house but was nabbed by the police and produced in court, he said.
