Man held for roaming near guest house where Advani is to stay

A 46-year old man was today "secured" by police after he was found moving around in a suspicious manner near the Salem Steel Plant Guest house where senior BJP leader L K Advani is scheduled to stay during his visit here on August 1, police said.
Mohammed Ali of Nagore found in possession of a battery and coil was handed over to the Crime-Branch Special Investigation Division police, probing the recent murder of BJP Tamil Nadu unit General Secretary V Ramesh here.
DGP K Ramanujam said it was found that the man was a 'wanderer'and had left his home a year ago and not been 'stable' after losing his children in 2004 tsunami, DGP K Ramanujam said.
"There is nothing suspicious. The battery and coil are said to be old," he told PTI.
Police said the man's family members were on their way to Salem.
In view of Advani's visit, the steel plant area has already been brought under tight security with deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Special Task Force (STF) and regular state police.
Advani is slated to arrive here on August 1 to participate in a condolence meeting being held in memory of Ramesh, who was brutally hacked to death by a gang near his house.
The BJP leader would visit the family of Ramesh and attend the condolence meeting late in the evening. He would stay overnight at the guest house and leave the city next morning.
Police have already brought the city and the entire district under tight vigil deploying over 2,000 personnel on security duty and all vehicles coming into the city were being checked at different points.
Similarly, security has been tightened in check-posts neighbouring Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri district, especially along the borders of Karnataka and Kerala, police said.
City police under the supervision of Police Commissioner K C Mahali have already taken control of the Jawahar Mill Ground where the condolence meeting is to be held.
