Jagdish (45) was at work in outer Delhi's Mongolpuri when he was shot at around 8 am by his son's brother-in-law Sagar, they said.
Jagdish was rushed to a hospital with a bullet wound to his back. Sagar fled from the spot leaving behind his motorcycle, they added.
He was arrested by later in the day, police seized a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from him.
Around six months ago, Sagar's mother fell ill and before she breathed her last, she vomited blood, making him believe that Jagdish had used witchcraft to kill his mother, he said.
The accused had been waiting since then to take revenge from Jagdish, police said.
